Music of January 2022

Now, everyone has their own taste of music and nobody can change that from them. However, it doesn't hurt to listen to new genres, artists and even decades.

Blah blah blah, here comes the sad story

I always think now and then how grateful I am for having my hearing. Being able to listen to sounds of any kind is one of the most gratifying things. I could not imagine a day without listening to music, nature or even my loved ones.

But enough melancholia!, here are my top 10 songs of the month. They vary from

and are all freshly released.

Enjoy!

TOP 10 SONGS FOR JAN '22

1. Expensive Taste by Kevin Holiday (R&B / Indie)

Kevin Holliday, Brooklyn native's has released a new song called "Expensive Taste" along with an animated lyric video.

The track's music, which was co-produced by Holliday and two of his long-time collaborators, combines pocket drumming with a very lively bass line, enhanced by the special sauce of a very '70s synth.

2. Mr. Put It On - AG Club (Hip-Hop/Rap)

AG Club put the world of alt-rap and indie rock on notice in 2021.

The hip-hop collective combined numerous diverse genres and styles for a breath of fresh air in today's music environment with the two-part effort.

3. Ayra - Nigo, A$AP Rocky (Hip-Hop/Rap)

Who's Nigo? A cultural iconoclast, the founder of BAPE and Human Made, and the driving force behind his new track "Arya," which features A$AP Rocky.

Despite the fact that the tune is somewhat simple, with only a piano and percussion track, A$AP Rocky uses the space to expand his creative wings and deliver one of his strongest performances since the release of his previous album over four years ago.

4. NW3 - Bakar (Alternative/Indie)

Bakar, a rapper and vocalist from London, has emerged as one of the most interesting and influential alternative performers in recent years.

The song is divided into parts, with the instruments employed dictating the changing mood. Bakar's melancholy crooning is accentuated by the guitar strums, but the sections when drums are introduced assist him to liven up the tempo.

Nobody's Home will release on Feb.25, but in the meantime, enjoy this gem!

5. Chocolate Hills - Khruangbin, Leon Bridges (Alternative/Indie)

"Chocolate Hills" is an ultra-smooth serenade, with minimal music by Khruangbin that allows Bridges' room-filling vocals to cut through.

This is the kind of song you'd want to add to your personal bedroom playlist. Over the soulful beat of the Houston psych-funk quartet, Bridges is silky smooth.

The full Album drops February 18 via Dead Oceans.

6. Postman - Toro y Moi |&| Magazine - Toro y Moi, Salami Rose Joe Louis (Alternative/Indie)

This has completely brightened my day!

Toro y Moi has revealed that a new album titled "Mahal" will be out in April, featuring a huge 13-track collection of all-new music, and now he's giving us a taste of what we can anticipate from that album with not one, but two new songs!

Postman

It's insanely addictive and infectious. Postman is an easily nice, groovy little funk pop track that reads almost exactly like a lot of the greatest things on Outer Peace, but adjusted to be just a touch more polished and snappy.

Magazine

While it's not like as catchy or as remembered as the former. It's practically the total opposite and ends up reading more like a gloomier tone, yet hopeful. Magazine offers a potential and interesting approach for the future album.

7. Walkin - Denzel Curry (Hip-Hop/Rap)

Denzel Curry shared a trailer for a new album called Melt My Eyez See Your Future, which will apparently include collaborations with Artists such as, T-Pain, 6lack, Rico Nasty, JID, Slowthai, Thundercat, Robert Glasper, and JPEGMAFIA.

The first half of the song begins with a soulful groove and a skillful performance by Denzel, as well as some thoughtful lyrics.

When the beat changes, the song elevates into another level with the same sample but extra trap components, the rhythm gets progressively addicting.

Melt My Eyez See Your Future is coming soon on Loma Vista.

8. Freaky (RGB) - Yeek (Pop/Drum n Bass)

Yeek (actual name Sebastian Carandang) was born in Jersey City and he went to Los Angeles in his early 20s, and the city became synonymous with his first full-length albums.

Yeek has a funky garage beat and dreamy vocals in an enthusiastic pop-conscious style.

"Freaky (RGB)" starts off with a burst of excitement that leads to the song's sweet hook. He ramps up the tempo in the second half of the song, mirroring the vigor of the opening stanza, but concludes it with calm evocative musings about "late-night things."

The short song, like the rest of his songs, they make you feel happy.

Whether he's creating a dancey club-ready feel or not, he's a genius at what he does.

9. Basquiat - The Kount, Verzache, Otxhello (Hip-Hop/Rap, Rap Québ)

A fun and uplifting moody gem that will be surely in your weekly's rotation.

The track starts with a melodic rhythm accompanied by Verzache's alluring voice and backed up with a lighthearted trap beat.

As for the message, it's clear Basquiat is seen as a source of inspiration to many.

10. Jennifer - salute (UK Garage/House)

salute, or also known as Felix Nyajo is a lowkey producer, songwriter & DJ based in Manchester, UK.

'Jennifer' is a year old but still hits the spot. It's jam-packed with lively cut-and-spliced vocals, housey 4-by-4 beats, melancholy synth lines, and dazzling energy.

Listening to the music elicits a strong sense of nostalgia, as well as a sense of anticipation for the ecstasy we'll all be sharing in real life in the not-too-distant future.
